# Fees

How the 2% fee works.

---

## Fee structure

Shaka charges a flat **2% fee** on every payment, added on top of the deal amount and paid by the buyer. It's hardcoded in the contract and split automatically:

- **1%** goes to Shaka.
- **1%** goes to the `referrer` wallet set when the deal was created (typically the creator's own wallet) — Shaka's way of routing what would otherwise be its own fee back to whoever brought the deal in. If no `referrer` is set, Shaka keeps the full 2%.

Recipients always receive 100% of the amounts set when the deal was created — the fee is never deducted from their payout.

There are no other fees on this flow. No subscription, no setup fee, no gas markup.

## Calculating the total

Rather than computing the total yourself, call `quote(dealId)` — it returns the exact amount, in wei, to send to `pay()`:

```javascript
const grandTotal = await shaka.quote(dealId);
await shaka.pay(dealId, { value: grandTotal });
```

`grandTotal` is the sum of every recipient's amount plus the 2% fee.

### Example

A deal worth $10,000 total, split $7,000 / $3,000 between two recipients, created with a `referrer` set:

```
recipient A       = $7,000   (in full)
recipient B       = $3,000   (in full)
referrer (1%)     = $100
Shaka's fee (1%)  = $100
grandTotal        = $10,200  (what the buyer sends)
```

## Gas costs

Gas is paid by the buyer, in ETH. Shaka does not add any gas markup. Typical cost on Ethereum mainnet is a few dollars, depending on network conditions.
